Oblong Ice Cream!

Red Velvet Waffle w/ Cookie & Cream Ice Cream

Ice cream waffle time again! :)
A friend recommended their red velvet waffle so we went to try it since it's near our house as well. Red velvet waffle is pretty special and we haven't try it before. They had a promotion where a single scoop of ice cream + waffle + 1 beverage = $10nett! Quite worth it yea?

There were many flavours of ice cream to choose from but we went for the normal cookie and cream ice cream. It was good :) The red velvet waffle was awesome! It was crispy and chewy, and there was thick cream cheese in between the waffles. The cream cheese made the waffle totally addictive! Its a good combination for people who has sweet tooth.

The café was totally empty when we went, but people started coming in after that. The interior of the café was simple, bright and clean. Customer service was alright, staff were generally friendly but didn't make any recommendations for us when we stood at the counter quite awhile feeling indecisive. However, we wouldn't mind going back again for some more waffles! :)

Sunday Market!

Had been having ice cream waffle craving since awhile ago and decided to go satisfy this craving after dinner! Decided to go to a café nearby the house.

Dessert of the night~

 Skinny Wings and Truffle Fries ($6.90++)

Ordered this small bite to go along with our desserts as it looks pretty attractive to us. The truffle fries was simply addictive; we finished it quickly without realizing. I personally liked the smell of the truffle oil and felt that the truffles fries was appetizing but sis felt that the truffle oil was not aromatic enough. The skinny wings were alright, nothing very special about them. They were really very mini in size, could finish it within 3 mouthful.

 Bangkok Toast ($10.90++)

We thought since we were already there, we should order the best-seller right? The Bangkok Toast dessert is widely popular on other food blogs as well! The toast was very thick and soft, with strong taste of cinnamon which made it very sweet on its own. The matcha custard and toast was a special and heavenly combination! The thai milk tea ice cream was special as well - it has a very strong taste of thai milk tea (like you are really drinking the tea, not eating the ice cream) and the texture of ice cream was more like sorbet. Did not regret trying this and strongly recommend this unique dessert!!

Kyoho Grape Ice-cream Waffle w/ Strawberry Sauce ($6++)

Wouldn't recommend this ice cream waffle because there was nothing special about this. The grape ice cream was decent. However, I prefer creamy ice cream texture to sorbet texture. The waffle on its own was very thick, but plain and did not have a crispy/fluffy taste.

Overall it was a great experience in Sunday Market Café. The exterior and design of the café was very special and vintage looking. The staff were friendly and provided good customer service. A waiter served us water quickly after we were seated, without us asking for it. Food were well-prepare, we may come back again next time to try their main dishes. Saw many people trying their fried chicken waffle.

Churrosity!

Churrosity is just a small stall located beside Crystal Jade in Holland Village. They only do takeaways. They sell:

1. Mini churros in cup (regular or large), free topping of your choice
2. Regular churros
3. Stuffed churros
4. Beverages (frappe)

Regular Mini Churros Cup w/ Chocolate Topping! $3.20

D: Churros! Also known as Spanish Doughnuts! Churros dipped in Chocolate sauce is so addictive! The first bite on it and I could not stop myself from taking the second. The chocolate is pretty rich (like fondue) and poured generously over the Churros! It is not overly sweet yet sweet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth! Would recommend for you guys who are craving for a sweet finger snack!

S: Didnt know what churros were until recently, but I've always heard people saying that it is very sweet. After trying, i fell in love with it! Its very crispy on the exterior, but not too hard as it looks. The chocolate topping was adequate and overall it was not too sweet! It's very addictive like what D said, definitely wanna have more churros!

Buddy Hoagies @ Bukit Timah Shopping Centre

Cream of Mushroom + Garlic Bread $4.00 (Top-up)
D: The Cream of Mushroom is nice and thick, not too salty and goes well in the mouth. Definitely makes a good appetizer while you're waiting for your main course to come. Additionally, you can dip this long piece of garlic bread in it and enjoy both the soup and the bread at the same time!

S: The soup is nothing extraordinary but nice. Thick and creamy - I like it! Comes with the garlic bread, a good combination. The garlic bread is not too hard or salty on its own, and tastes good when you dip in the soup!

Rib-eye Steak w/ Mac & Cheese and Onion Ring $16.90
Medium Rare
D: My favourite protein! Beef! This is a 180g Ribeye Steak. Usually i'd go for 250g but cos i'm not exactly that hungry today, i shall go for the lighter choice. I'll always go for Medium Rare because it's the nicest doneness level! However, my steak was slightly overcooked, resulting it to be kind of near Medium. It is still nice tho! For this price, I would not ask to see a high quality steak coming out in front of me! The Mac & Cheese is not bad and Onion Rings are just onion rings!

S: "Hey I don't eat beef!" But a little disappointing that the sides were serve cold.

Cheese Fries $3.90
D: Basically fries soaked in baked cheddar! I particularly like this dish for a few reasons. It's price is reasonable for its quantity and there is abundance of cheese in it! Also, the baked part of the cheese is always nice to munch on! Nicely flavoured fries in lots of cheese! What can possibly be better?

S: I love the cheese fries as well! They are very generous for the amount of fries and cheese. It took quite long for the fries to be served, but at least it was piping hot! There is mayonnaise sauce at the bottom as well.

D: Overall i think that Buddy Hoagies is an affordable western dining place for families and friends to sit down for a nice relaxing lunch/dinner. If you want to have a nice western meal and yet do not want to spend more than $20, consider Buddy Hoagies! To top it up, they do not charge 10% Service Charge! Which is good for diner's wallets :)

添好運 Tim Ho Wan @ Westgate!

The world's cheapest Michelin Star restaurant! It has opened 4 outlets all around Singapore within a short span of a year.

We went during a weekday afternoon, so there was just a short queue. Anyway, small group(2-3 pax) are generally seated in the restaurant pretty quickly! Although the restaurant is in a mall, it gets pretty hot after you started eating.

H1 - Baked Bun w/ BBQ Pork $4.50++

S: One of the Big 4 Heavenly King Dim Sum! These buns hold the title not for no reason! I am generally not a char siew bun person, but I love these tim ho wan's buns. The exterior is crumbly yet soft, and the BBQ pork is soft and juicy. It is actually like boluo pau, but it is not dry. A good combination of sweet and salty dim sum!

D: This is by far the best Char Siew Bun i've ever eaten! Seldom do we see char siew bun in these crusty skin! Do not be fooled by its crispy looking exterior! When you sink your teeth into it, it's actually soft! The BBQ pork inside is tasty and not chunky at all! The texture is just silky smooth. A definite must-order if you ever visit Tim Ho Wan!

H2 - Pan Fried Carrot Cake $4.50++

S: Also one of the Big 4 Heavenly King Dim Sum! I personally loves carrot cake a lot, but I find this carrot cake nothing extraordinary. Tried tim ho wan's carrot cake at another outlet previously and it was average, but this time the carrot cake tasted a bit bitter (like it's too burnt).

D: I'm not a carrot cake kind of person. But this carrot cake is very different from what we usually have. The texture of the interior is very smooth and melts in your mouth! Got to agree with Shwu on the poor quality of the carrot cake served this time tho!

R21 - Glutinous Rice with Lotus Leaf $5.00++

S: I love this dish! The glutinous rice is very well cooked - very soft and sticky as a whole. Loads of chicken meat and some mushrooms wrapped within the rice. It is really delicious and big in portion.

D: A very very filling dish! With alot of fillings and rice! One does not simply finish this dish by himself/herself! Would recommend up to 4pax at least to order 1 of this as its really filling and leaves you little spaces for other nice dishes they have to offer!

M2 - Jade Wanton in Laksa Soup (Monthly Special) $5.00++

S: The laksa soup tasted very local, but it was not too thick because there is lesser coconut milk in it. But nevertheless, the soup base is tasty. The wantons are very big, and they are wrapped with vegetables (Jiu cai). It is actually pretty good despite me disliking jiu cai. However, I feel that the wanton skin were a bit thick and not too soft.

D: Lovely laksa soup! Can't really taste coconut milk in it so i guess they didn't put any! I don't really like coconut milk so its really nice for me! I'm a fan of jiu cai so the wantons are really nice too! However, the fillings could contain abit less jiu cai to let the meat carry out more taste!

M1 - Yam Dumpling with Sweet Chili Crab Meat (Monthly Special) $5.00++

S: I think it is a very unique and creative dim sum? The exterior was very crispy and flaky. The chili crab meat was not too sweet so it was good. But it is quite spicy!

D: Hong kong style fried dumping with local flavour! This can't get any better! The filling is very nice and sweet! Recommend!

S10 - Pork Dumpling w/ Shrimp $5.00++
Commonly known as Siew Mai

S: Nothing extraordinary

D: Yup like Shwu says, it's just Siew Mais :)

Shrimp Vermicelli Roll $5.50++
Commonly known as Chee Cheong Fun

S: One of my favourite dim sum although it is nothing special. The skin is very soft and smooth and the shrimps were large and fresh.

D: Silky smooth skin with fresh and crunchy shrimps on the inside! A very exquisite dish! Sure it takes a lot of effort to make something this nice :)

Strictly no reservations allowed for all of their outlets. And all diners in the group must be present before you can be seated. Takeaways available!

Swensens @ Nex Shopping Mall!

Mac & Cheese $13.90++
 D: Shwu ordered this dish! Tried a few mouth of it and love it more than my own! The baked cheese spreads nicely over all the macs and the melted cheese on the inside gives the macs a very cheesy and nice taste! Would recommend cheese lovers to order this dish! Filling and filled with cheese :D

S: Typical mac & cheese dish! There are mushrooms and onions inside as well. The baked cheese is nice and not too much. It was served piping hot so it was really good! But some parts of the dish were watery and diluted. Other than that, I wouldn't mind eating it again the next time.

Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich $14.90++
New Items on Swensens' Menu! Yeah! Finally something new on the menu! Got pretty bored of the old menu already.

D: The Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich caught my eye at first sight, for I am a beef lover! And who doesn't like a steak in their sandwich? Sounds like something tasty! However, the steak that is served is very thin, kind of dry and overcooked. However, the abundance of cheese on the steak does give it a nice cheesy flavour! The sandwich is a Sourdough Bread and its crunchy! This dish is overall pretty filling. But i would not recommend this dish if you are a fussy beef eater! Otherwise, this dish is okay!

Would love to try their breakfast menu soon!

Wafflelicious!

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR 2014! :)

After our dinner, we went for supper at Waffleslicious! Thank god it was still open and not very crowded. There are seats inside and outside of the shop. More seats are available behind the cashier counter, where you have to walk up a few steps. It's a self service concept - you order and pay at the cashier counter, and go back to your seat to wait for your food to be served. Water is free-of-charge and self service at the back as well. The shop is pretty smoky inside because there is no back kitchen to prepare the food.

Food wise, you can either choose their signature waffle combinations or create your own!

Create your Own Waffle!

This is the waffle we "made"!

Step One: Choose your Waffle
- We chose Chocolate Waffle ($3.80)
Step Two: Choose your Gelato
- We chose Strawberry Cheesecake ($3.60)
Step Three: Choose your Topping
- We chose Oreo ($0.70)

Total : $8.10

S: I think our self-created waffle is not bad! Firstly, the Chocolate Waffle is actually crispy outside but totally melts in the mouth! Although it's Chocolate flavoured, it is not too sweet for me. Plus, the Chocolate Waffle  is actually one of the recommended flavours! Secondly, the Strawberry Cheesecake gelato is tasty as well. Although others commented that it was too sweet, I personally find it alright! (Maybe it's the girls' thing) People usually gets tired of eating cheesecake-flavour but the gelato is acceptable!

After leaving the shop, we had a strong food smell stain on our hairs and clothes!
Overall, it's a good place to just chill and hang out with friends. Do check out this place for some of their unique waffle flavours!

D: It's my first time coming to Wafflelicious! Because it's Chinese New Year Day 1, most of the ice cream parlours along the Upper Thomson stretch are closed. So we have decided to walk around and noticed Wafflelicious is open! There aren't many tables around the shop, so we're actually lucky to have a table for 4.

Although it is splitted into 3 steps, each step adds up to the price depending on your choice.
The Chocolate Waffle has a crispy exterior and the inside just melts in your mouth. In my opinion this is better than the waffle that Udders has to offer, although Udder's waffle is larger in size.

The Strawberry Cheesecake is very rich in flavour, effectively bringing out the cheesecake feel. However, it is a bit too sweet for me. Nevertheless, i did enjoy the combination that we've picked for our waffle! It goes well together with the waffle base and the topping.
I will not talk about the Oreo topping as it is pretty self-explanatory :P

I've yet to try their Savoury Waffles! Shall try it for brunch some other day. Stay tuned! :)

Will recommend couples to come to Wafflelicious to try out their waffle for late night supper! Nothing makes a better supper date than sharing a nice waffle together!

Ippudo Ramen @ Mandarin Gallery

So we went to try Ippudo Ramen (the acclaimed 'Best Ramen in Town' by many) at its Mandarin Gallery branch. Reached the place at about 5pm+ so there was only a short queue. The place was quite crampy, like we sat pretty near to the next table. And it was quite noisy in the restaurant due to the playing of loud music and customers' conversations. The staff were friendly as they greeted us when we entered and left. They also refilled our water promptly, so it was pretty good service!

 5-Kinds of Cheese Jaga Balls ($8++)
Potato Cheese Balls in 5 flavours - Spicy, Taru-taru, Garlic, Curry & Karaka-mayo.

S: Very cute little looking cheese balls. Although the menu stated 5 different flavours, I felt that they all tasted the same to me. Except the one with some white powder on top - it tasted more salty. Overall the taste is good, but I felt like it is more of potato balls than cheese balls. $8 for these small balls....maybe not so worthy?

D: Personally i like all 5 of these unique flavored cheese balls. They are not exactly very cheesy, just a little bit of cheese blended with potato; just the way i like them to be. The 2 balls with dips below them caught more of my attention. The dip (or sauce that the ball is sitting on) gives the plain cheese ball a whole new taste. This dish definitely makes a good appetizer, simply because it's strongly flavoured and yet too small to make you feel a tad full. Would recommend this dish if you have the budget.

Shoyu-Wanton Men ($17++)
Noodles in clear chicken & pork broth with succulent shrimp dumplings

S: I ordered this Shoyu-Wanton Men (like Wanton Mee, haha), which is one of the featured ramen in the menu. The type of ramen they used were very thin, and the soup base for this ramen is quite bland, which I did not really like it since I prefer more-flavoured soup base for ramen. But the best part of the ramen was the chashu! It was really very smooth and tender, which I love it!

D: The soup base is nicely

Spicy Miso Tonkotsu ($18++)
Miso tonkotsu ramen with added spicy miso paste and spicy fragrant oil

D: Seeing that Shwu has ordered a non-spicy soup base, I thought I should try the spicy ramen to see the contrast between the 2 distinct types of ramen. It's pretty spicy but for a spicy-lover like me, it's still manageable. It tasted more like kimchi soup base, a little bit of sour that comes with the immense spiciness. The noodles absorb the soup flavour very well, yet does not get soggy! Best thing about this ramen is the soup base of course. Would recommend this to any spicy-eaters out there! But if you're not good at eating spicy food, watch out! This might not be the ramen for you! (:

S: Very spicy indeed!

And the reason for their thin ramen...

S: In my opinion, I feel that the place is overrated and slightly pricey? Definitely not my favorite ramen place to go.

D: Would recommend this restaurant if you are a noodle lover, as their noodle is really special and tasty. Otherwise, there are cheaper alternatives to this ramen shop.
